Open Graph Preview: limits and things worth knowing
- og:image must be an absolute URL. A relative path is the single most common reason a shared link shows no preview image.
- 1200×630 is the safe size, giving the 1.91:1 ratio most platforms crop to. Images under 200×200 are generally ignored.
- Platforms cache aggressively. After fixing a tag you usually have to force a re-scrape in the platform's own debugging tool before the change appears.
- Some platforms read Twitter Card tags in preference to Open Graph, so pages often need both. Where only Open Graph is present, most fall back to it.
