• The standard post limit on X is 280 characters. X Premium subscribers can post up to 25,000, but only the first 280 show before the post is truncated in the timeline — so 280 remains the practical limit for anything you want read in full.
• Every URL counts as 23 characters regardless of its real length, because links are wrapped by the platform's own shortener. A 120-character link and a 30-character link cost exactly the same.
• Emoji and most non-Latin scripts count as more than one character. A single emoji frequently costs two, which is why a post that looks short can still be rejected.
• Images, GIFs, videos and polls do not count against the character limit at all.
• A bio is limited to 160 characters and a display name to 50 — both different from the post limit.
