• Formatting is textual and does not validate against any database. A query that formats cleanly can still fail on your dialect.
• SQL dialects differ enough to matter — quoting with backticks in MySQL, double quotes in PostgreSQL, square brackets in SQL Server. The formatter preserves what you wrote rather than converting it.
• Uppercase keywords with lowercase identifiers is the long-standing convention because it makes structure scannable, but no engine cares — SQL keywords are case-insensitive.
• Comments are preserved. If a query contains an optimiser hint in a comment, formatting will not discard it.
