Markdown to HTML: limits and things worth knowing

• Markdown has no single standard. CommonMark and GitHub Flavored Markdown differ on tables, strikethrough, task lists and autolinking, so the same source can render differently in different places.
• Raw HTML in a Markdown source is normally passed straight through, which is convenient and is also why Markdown from an untrusted author is not safe to render without sanitising.
• A line break in the source is not a line break in the output. Markdown needs two trailing spaces or a blank line, which is the most common surprise for new users.
• Indenting a list by four spaces turns it into a code block. Use two for nesting.
