What people use CSV to JSON for

  • Turning a spreadsheet export into JSON for an API or a script.
  • Converting exported analytics or billing data into a structure a program can iterate.
  • Loading a CSV into a JavaScript project without adding a parsing dependency.

CSV to JSON: limits and things worth knowing

  • Fields containing a comma, a quote or a newline must be quoted in the source, with embedded quotes doubled. That is the actual CSV convention, and it is why a naive split on commas corrupts real-world files.
  • Everything in CSV is text. Numbers, booleans and dates only become typed values because the converter infers them — check that leading zeros in IDs and postcodes have not been eaten.
  • The first row is treated as the header and becomes the object keys. Duplicate column names collide, because a JSON object cannot hold the same key twice.
  • Semicolon-delimited exports are common from European Excel locales, where the comma is the decimal separator.

Is it private and secure?

Your privacy is built in. CSV to JSON runs completely on your device, so whatever you enter stays in your browser and is never transmitted, logged or stored on any server.

Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.

You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.
