Why use JSON to YAML?

  • 100% free with no limits, no sign-up and no watermarks.
  • Private by design — your data are processed in your browser and never uploaded to a server.
  • Fast and lightweight, with instant results even on a phone or a slow connection.
  • Works everywhere — any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android or iOS.
  • Part of a full developer tools suite, so related json to yaml tasks are one click away.

What people use JSON to YAML for

  • Converting an API response into a readable config file.
  • Turning JSON into the YAML that CI, Kubernetes and Docker Compose expect.
  • Making a deeply nested structure easier to read for review.

JSON to YAML: limits and things worth knowing

  • YAML is a superset of JSON, so any valid JSON is already valid YAML. The conversion is about readability, not compatibility.
  • Strings that look like booleans, numbers or dates get quoted in the output so they survive the round trip — an unquoted version number like 1.20 would otherwise come back as the number 1.2.
  • YAML supports comments and JSON does not, so converting the other way always loses them.
  • Multi-line strings become block scalars, which is the main reason YAML is easier to read for anything containing scripts or certificates.

Is it private and secure?

Your privacy is built in. JSON to YAML runs completely on your device, so whatever you enter stays in your browser and is never transmitted, logged or stored on any server.

Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.

You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.
