What people use ISO 8601 Converter for
- Converting a timestamp from a log or an API into a readable local time.
- Producing a correctly formatted ISO timestamp for an API that requires one.
- Checking whether a stored timestamp is in seconds or milliseconds.
ISO 8601 Converter: limits and things worth knowing
- The Z suffix means UTC exactly. An offset such as +05:00 states a local offset but not a timezone — it cannot tell you whether daylight saving applies, which is why storing an offset is not the same as storing a zone.
- Unix timestamps are in seconds; JavaScript's Date.now() is in milliseconds. A timestamp landing in 1970 means milliseconds were read as seconds, and one landing far in the future means the reverse.
- The T separator is required by the strict standard. A space instead is widely accepted but is not valid ISO 8601, and strict parsers reject it.
- ISO 8601 also defines week dates (2026-W33-1) and ordinal dates (2026-228), both of which appear in real data and confuse parsers that assume a calendar date.
Is it private and secure?
Your privacy is built in. ISO 8601 Converter runs completely on your device, so whatever you enter stays in your browser and is never transmitted, logged or stored on any server.
Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.
You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.
