Tile Calculator: limits and things worth knowing
- Divide the area by the tile area, then add 10% for cuts on a straight lay and 15% for a diagonal or herringbone pattern, which generates far more waste.
- Order all tiles in one batch. Shade varies between production batches, and a top-up order will usually be visibly different.
- Grout quantity depends on joint width and tile thickness as well as area; narrow joints on large tiles use very little.
- Large-format tiles need a flatter substrate than small ones, which often adds levelling compound to the job.
Is it private and secure?
Your privacy is built in. Tile Calculator runs completely on your device, so whatever you enter stays in your browser and is never transmitted, logged or stored on any server.
Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.
You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.
