- Testing how retiring a few years later changes the outcome.
Retirement Calculator: limits and things worth knowing
- Projections are extremely sensitive to the assumed return and inflation. Changing either by one percentage point moves a 30-year projection by tens of percent, so treat the output as a range rather than a figure.
- The 4% rule — withdrawing 4% of the pot in year one, then rising with inflation — comes from US historical data over 30-year retirements and is a rule of thumb, not a guarantee. It has been widely debated and does not transfer cleanly to other markets or longer retirements.
- State pension entitlement, workplace schemes and tax treatment vary enormously by country and are not modelled.
- This is an arithmetic projection, not financial advice. A regulated adviser can account for your tax position, which this cannot.
Is it private and secure?
Your privacy is built in. Retirement Calculator runs completely on your device, so whatever you enter stays in your browser and is never transmitted, logged or stored on any server.
Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.
You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.
