VAT / GST Calculator: limits and things worth knowing
- Removing tax is not the same as subtracting the rate. At 20%, the tax inside a £120 gross price is £120 ÷ 1.2 = £100 net, so £20 tax — not £120 × 0.20 = £24, which is the common mistake.
- Rates vary widely: the UK is 20% standard with reduced and zero rates, India's GST runs in several slabs, and Gulf VAT is typically 5%. Apply your own jurisdiction's rate.
- Businesses registered for VAT generally reclaim input tax, so the headline rate is a cost only to the end consumer and to unregistered businesses.
- Rounding rules differ between jurisdictions and can cause small discrepancies on multi-line invoices; the tax authority's rule takes precedence over the arithmetic here.
Is it private and secure?

Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.
You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.
