Currency Converter

Convert between major world currencies using live exchange rates. Rates are fetched on demand from a public exchange-rate service.

How to use Currency Converter: Open Currency Converter in your browser — it loads instantly and works offline once cached. Enter your values in the input fields. Every field is labelled so you know exactly what to type. The result updates automatically as you type — there is no "submit" round-trip to a server. The calculation itself runs inside your browser; the only thing that leaves your device is the small request described below.

Live rates from open.er-api.com (with the European Central Bank via frankfurter.dev as a fallback). Fetching a rate sends the selected currency to the rate service. Rates are indicative and update daily.

Convert between major world currencies using live exchange rates. Rates are fetched on demand from a public exchange-rate service. Currency Converter is a free, browser-based tool in the Filevane financial calculators collection — there is nothing to install, no account to create and no watermark on your results. It works on desktop, tablet and mobile, and because the work happens on your own device it stays fast even with large inputs.

Currency Converter: limits and things worth knowing

  • Rates are mid-market reference rates. They are not what a bank, card or bureau will actually give you — a retail spread of 1-4% on top is normal, and airport bureaux are far worse.
  • Rates are published once per day by the underlying feeds and do not update intraday, so this is not a tool for trading.
  • The European Central Bank feed used as a fallback covers major currencies only; the primary feed covers around 160 including PKR, BDT and most Gulf currencies.
  • This is the one tool on the site that makes an outbound request — see the network note above. The amount you type is never sent; only the pair of currency codes.

Is it private and secure?

Currency Converter does its work on your own device. It is one of only three tools on Filevane that contacts the network at all, and it is published as a named exception on our privacy proof page rather than quietly excluded from the claim — the specifics are immediately below.

Network activity: this tool sends one thing. The conversion arithmetic runs on your device, but fetching the day's rate sends the two currency codes you selected (for example USD and EUR) to open.er-api.com, with api.frankfurter.dev as a fallback. The amount you typed is never transmitted — the tool downloads a rate table and multiplies locally.

You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.

Why Browser-Based Tools Are Safer for Your Files Most online converters upload your files to a server. Client-side tools don't. Here's why that difference matters for privacy.

Frequently asked questions

Are these the rates my bank will give me?

No, and the gap matters. These are mid-market reference rates — the midpoint between buy and sell in the wholesale market. Banks, cards and bureaux add a spread on top, typically 1-4%, and airport exchange counters are considerably worse. Use this figure as the benchmark to judge an offer against, not as the amount you will actually receive.

Does this tool send my data anywhere?

It sends the two currency codes you selected — for example USD and EUR — to open.er-api.com in order to fetch the day's rate table, with api.frankfurter.dev as a fallback. The amount you type is never transmitted: the rate table comes back and the multiplication happens in your browser. This is the only tool on Filevane that makes an outbound request, and it is listed explicitly on our privacy proof page.

How often do the rates update?

Once per day. The underlying feeds publish daily reference rates rather than a live market feed, so the number will not move if you refresh. That is fine for pricing, invoicing and travel budgeting, and it is not suitable for trading or for anything that depends on intraday movement.

Which currencies are supported?

Around 160, including PKR, BDT, LKR, NPR and the Gulf currencies (SAR, AED, QAR, KWD, BHD, OMR) that the European Central Bank feed does not cover. The ECB fallback handles the major pairs only, so if the primary feed is unavailable an unusual currency may be temporarily unavailable with it.

Can I use it offline?

Only partly. The page itself works offline once loaded, but fetching a fresh rate needs a connection. If you are travelling, load the pair you need while you still have data and the last retrieved rate stays usable.
