What people use Pace Calculator for

  • Working out the pace needed to finish a race in a target time.
  • Converting between minutes per kilometre and minutes per mile.
  • Planning splits for a long run.

Pace Calculator: limits and things worth knowing

  • Pace is time divided by distance; speed is distance divided by time. A 5:00/km pace is 12 km/h, and mixing the two up is the usual source of confusion.
  • A marathon in under 4 hours needs about 5:41/km or 9:09/mile held for the whole distance — useful to see stated as a pace rather than a finish time.
  • Course elevation, heat and wind all change the pace achievable for the same effort, so a flat-course target is not transferable.
  • Most training plans use negative splits — running the second half slightly faster — because starting too fast is the most common cause of a poor finish.

Is it private and secure?

Your privacy is built in. Pace Calculator runs completely on your device, so whatever you enter stays in your browser and is never transmitted, logged or stored on any server.

Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.

You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.
