Calories Burned: limits and things worth knowing
- Estimates use MET values — multiples of resting metabolic rate — scaled by body weight and duration. A heavier person burns more for the same activity.
- MET tables are population averages and take no account of fitness, efficiency or terrain. Individual variation is large.
- Fitness trackers and gym machines routinely overestimate, sometimes by 20-50%, and machines that do not know your weight are guessing entirely.
- Part of the figure is energy you would have spent anyway at rest. The net additional burn is lower than the gross number shown.
- General information only, not a prescription for training or diet.
Is it private and secure?
Your privacy is built in. Calories Burned runs completely on your device, so whatever you enter stays in your browser and is never transmitted, logged or stored on any server.
Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.
You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.
