What people use Calorie Calculator for

  • Estimating daily calorie needs to maintain, lose or gain weight.
  • Setting a target for a nutrition plan.
  • Understanding the size of deficit a goal implies.

Calorie Calculator: limits and things worth knowing

  • Maintenance is BMR multiplied by an activity factor. A deficit of roughly 500 kcal a day corresponds to about 0.5 kg a week, based on the approximation that fat tissue holds about 7,700 kcal per kilogram.
  • That approximation degrades over time. Metabolic adaptation and reduced body mass both slow loss, so linear projections overestimate results beyond a few weeks.
  • Very low intakes risk nutritional deficiency and muscle loss. Most guidance advises not going below about 1,200 kcal for women or 1,500 for men without supervision.
  • Self-reported food intake is systematically underestimated in research, often substantially — which explains many plateaus better than metabolism does.
  • General information only. Anyone with a medical condition or an eating disorder history should speak to a clinician.

Is it private and secure?

Your privacy is built in. Calorie Calculator runs completely on your device, so whatever you enter stays in your browser and is never transmitted, logged or stored on any server.

Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.

You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.
