How do I check JavaScript for syntax errors?
Paste the code and any parse error is reported with its line and column. This catches structural problems — an unclosed brace, a stray comma, a missing parenthesis — which are the errors that stop a file loading at all rather than failing at runtime.
Does this find bugs as well as syntax errors?
No. A parser only reports code that cannot be parsed. Logic errors, undefined variables and type mistakes all parse perfectly well — those need a linter such as ESLint, or TypeScript.
Why does valid modern syntax get flagged?
Usually a mismatch between the syntax level being parsed and the one you are writing. Very new proposals, JSX, and TypeScript annotations are not plain JavaScript and need the appropriate transform before a standard parser will accept them.
Is my code sent anywhere to be checked?
No. Parsing happens in your browser, which means proprietary or unreleased source can be checked without it leaving your machine — not something an API-backed validator can offer.
