• Interpolating in sRGB passes through grey between complementary colours, which is why a blue-to-orange scale has a dull middle. OKLCH or LAB interpolation avoids it.

• Sequential scales suit ordered data and diverging scales suit data with a meaningful midpoint. Rainbow scales are widely discouraged because they imply boundaries that are not in the data.
