How do I change a PDF's producer name?
Open the PDF here and edit the Producer field directly. Producer and Creator are different things and are routinely confused: Creator is the application the content was authored in (Word, InDesign), while Producer is the library that actually wrote the PDF file — which is why so many PDFs are stamped with a toolkit name the author has never heard of.
What metadata does a PDF contain?
Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, and the creation and modification timestamps. Many PDFs also carry an XMP packet with a fuller record, sometimes including software versions and editing history.
Can PDF metadata identify me?
Frequently, yes. The Author field commonly holds a real name or a corporate username, and Creator and Producer reveal your software stack. It is worth clearing before publishing anything — a redacted document with the author's name in its metadata is a well-documented way that leaks happen.
Does editing metadata change the document content?
No. Only the information dictionary is rewritten; pages, text and images are untouched. Note that a digitally signed PDF will show its signature as invalid afterwards, because the file's bytes have changed.
