Password Generator: limits and things worth knowing
- Generation uses the browser's cryptographically secure random number generator and happens entirely on your device. This is the whole point: a password generated on a server has, by definition, been known to that server, and you have no way to verify what it did with it.
- Length beats complexity. A 16-character random password is stronger than a 10-character one with every symbol class forced, and far easier to handle.
- Forced composition rules (one upper, one digit, one symbol) measurably reduce entropy by shrinking the search space, which is why current NIST guidance advises against them.
- A passphrase of five or six random words is comparable in strength to a 16-character random string and vastly easier to type on a phone or a TV.
- Reuse is the actual risk. A unique password per site, stored in a password manager, defeats credential stuffing in a way that complexity rules never did.

What is entropy and how much do I need?
Entropy estimates how hard a password is to guess, in bits. 70+ bits is strong for most accounts; aim for 100+ for high-value or long-lived secrets.
Why exclude similar characters?
Characters like l, I, 1, O and 0 are easy to misread. Excluding them helps when a password must be typed or read aloud.
