Barcode Generator: limits and things worth knowing
- The symbology determines what you can encode: EAN-13 and UPC-A take digits only and include a mandatory check digit, while CODE128 accepts full alphanumeric data.
- A retail barcode needs a GS1-issued company prefix. Generating an EAN or UPC number yourself produces a scannable barcode that is not a valid registered product identifier and will be rejected by retailers.
- Quiet zones on both sides are part of the symbol. Cropping them is the most common reason a printed barcode will not scan.
- Print at adequate size and high contrast — dark bars on a white background. Scaling a barcode down too far makes the bars merge at print resolution.
Is it private and secure?
Your privacy is built in. Barcode Generator runs completely on your device, so whatever you enter stays in your browser and is never transmitted, logged or stored on any server.
Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.
You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.
