XML Diff: limits and things worth knowing

• Comparison is structural rather than line-by-line, so reformatted or re-indented XML that is semantically identical does not show as a difference.
• Attribute order is not significant in XML and is treated accordingly; element order is significant and is reported.
• Both documents are parsed in your browser. This matters for XML specifically, because configuration and API payloads routinely contain credentials, endpoints and customer data.
• Malformed XML is reported with its parse error rather than silently diffed as text.
