What people use Adler-32 Calculator for

  • Verifying data integrity in a context that already uses zlib checksums.
  • Producing a fast non-cryptographic checksum for a large block of data.
  • Comparing two payloads cheaply before doing a full comparison.

Adler-32 Calculator: limits and things worth knowing

  • Adler-32 is the checksum used inside zlib and PNG. It is faster to compute than CRC-32 but detects fewer errors, particularly on short inputs where its two running sums have little to work with.
  • It is not cryptographic. Producing a different message with the same Adler-32 is trivial, so it detects accidental corruption and provides no protection against deliberate tampering.
  • For short messages the checksum is notably weak, which is why RFC 3309 moved SCTP from Adler-32 to CRC-32C.
  • Use SHA-256 for anything where an attacker might be involved, and CRC-32 where you want a stronger accidental-error check at similar speed.

Is it private and secure?

Your privacy is built in. Adler-32 Calculator runs completely on your device, so whatever you enter stays in your browser and is never transmitted, logged or stored on any server.

Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.

You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.
