  • Computing mean, median, mode, variance and standard deviation for a data set.
  • Summarising results for a report or a piece of coursework.
  • Checking a spreadsheet's statistics against an independent calculation.

Statistics Calculator: limits and things worth knowing

  • The mean is pulled by outliers and the median is not, which is why income is reported as a median and height as a mean.
  • Sample standard deviation divides by n−1 and population standard deviation by n. Using the wrong one understates variability in small samples — this is Bessel's correction.
  • Standard deviation is in the same units as the data; variance is in units squared, which is why standard deviation is the one usually reported.
  • Summary statistics can hide the shape of a distribution entirely. Two very different data sets can share a mean and a standard deviation — always look at the data as well.

Is it private and secure?

Your privacy is built in. Statistics Calculator runs completely on your device, so whatever you enter stays in your browser and is never transmitted, logged or stored on any server.

Network activity: none. Nothing is sent and nothing is fetched. This tool makes no network request at all once the page has loaded — which is why it keeps working if your connection drops.

You do not have to take that on trust — our privacy proof page publishes the Content-Security-Policy that enforces it, lists every third party it permits, and shows how to verify the whole claim yourself.

Why Browser-Based Tools Are Safer for Your Files Most online converters upload your files to a server. Client-side tools don't. Here's why that difference matters for privacy.
